Making Sure Your Creditors Are Being Paid and Accepting Payment
Just because you enter into a debt repayment plan with a credit counseling agency does not mean that every creditor will accept the terms and payments provided by the credit counseling agency. Additionally, not all creditors will work with your credit counseling agency.
When to Check Your Creditors are Being Paid
You may not know for a number of months after beginning a debt repayment plan if the credit counseling agency’s payments are being accepted. Contact your creditors in writing approximately every three months to inquire on your account balance and transaction history.
Are You Receiving Notices of Legal Action?
If you are receiving notices of legal action be sure to forward copies to your credit counseling agency. Be prepared to make payments to creditors that do not accept the debt repayment plan offered by your credit counseling agency. As with all bills, make sure to pay in-full and on-time if not a few days early to reestablish your credit.
